Why Are Beach Wedding Receptions Different

What makes beach wedding receptions so unique? First of all, there’s nothing like feeling the sand beneath your toes as you dig in to your food. Even if you don’t have a live band or a deejay, no entertainment is necessary as your guests can ooh and ahh over a spectacular sunset. Later, they can enjoy the sensation of a cool sea breeze against their skin. Read on to find out just what it is that sets beach wedding receptions apart.

Casual Vibe

Unlike a reception held at a posh hotel or restaurant, beach receptions are much more relaxed. Everyone is encouraged to take things slowly, to sit back and enjoy their meal and each other’s company. At a beach wedding reception, black tie is not necessary. In fact, it would even look out of place. This is why most guests to a beach wedding reception opt for a breezy sundress or a cool short-sleeved shirt over khakis. Ladies, if you’re going to a beach wedding reception, don’t forget to wear flats or wedges. Heels will soon sink in sand and you’ll look like a fool.

The View

There’s no need for fancy swag when the ocean provides the best view that you could ever hope for. Whether you’re getting married in the morning, at noon or at night, your gusts will be sure to get a glimpse of the mighty ocean. If possible, why not end your wedding with a casual swim after you’ve all rested once the reception is done? If getting wet isn’t your style, you can also opt for a quick game of beach volleyball, or even build a couple of castles.

Access and Privacy

If you’re planning on honeymooning on a nearby island, you can end your wedding with a bang by getting into a boat after the reception. Many beaches are also fairly secluded, thus they’re perfect for intimate weddings. People who aren’t fond of crowds can find themselves a nice, quiet beach to hold their wedding and reception. This way, they can say their vows surrounded by family and a few close friends. Many beaches aren’t easily accessible, so they can offer a private space for couples who would rather not share their special day with a lot of other people.

Another bonus to holding a beach wedding reception is that you have the option of renting someone’s beach vacation house to serve as your home base for the wedding. Simply set up your folding chairs and tables on the beach in front of the property that you’ve rented. After the wedding, you’re all set for an intimate beach reception.

Seafood

Yet another advantage of a beach wedding reception is the leeway that it allows your wedding menu. A lot of seafood is expensive, but if you have a beach wedding reception, you can negotiate with a local restaurant and caterer for a yummy seafood meal that won’t bust your budget. Best of all, it will be caught fresh and ready for your guests to savor. There’s nothing to perk up an appetite like the fresh air that will surround your guests as they eat. Be sure to take advantage of the seafood that’s in season and try to buy in bulk so that you can bargain on the price.

Vacation

Many guests are excited to be invited to a beach wedding because it also doubles as a two-in-one vacation. Once the groom and bride go off on their honeymoon, it’s time for guests to plan their own getaway. Since you’re already there, you might as well make the most of it. Most brides and grooms will have negotiated a discount rate with the inn or hotel where their guests will be staying, so this is one perk that you’ll be able to take advantage of. You can combine your summer vacation with your friend’s beach wedding. Both of you will end up tanned and happy.

These are only a few of the reasons why beach wedding receptions are so unique. It’s just a few things to consider if you’re planning a wedding and you have yet to find a venue for your wedding and reception. Why not hold it on the beach?
